Originally Rob Quirk never intended to be a racer, but when he was accepted to ride in the TransContinental Race No.4, all of that changed.

A gruelling 2,500 mile race across Europe to Turkey, the TCR is the ultimate test of man (or woman) and machine. It aims to recreate the adventure of the olden days of road cycling, where the great races were founded on the desire to create a spectacle of thousands of miles of cycling, whatever the weather and road conditions, often racing in excess of 400km per day and long into the night, at the wheel for 18 hours or more.

At the sharp end it is a beautifully hard bicycle race, simple in design but complex in execution. Factors of self sufficiency, logistics, navigation and judgement burden the racers' minds as well as their physiques.

Uniquely, Rob has designed and built the frame he will race on, which scooped a hat trick of awards at UK National Handmade Bicycle Show - Bespoked 2016; Outstanding New Framebuilder, Outstanding Design and Brooks Choice.

When he looked for a clothing brand to compliment this, he searched for a company that could combine the same attention to detail and also provide the creative spark that he too has fostered in his framebuilding. The brief was simple. The clothing must be able to withstand long hours in the saddle, in all conditions, be light, packable, comfortable and most importantly, must match the award winning bike. Morvélo were honoured to have been chosen.

We sought to provide Rob not only with the staple range of clothing needed such as jersey, shorts and base layer, but also entirely new products that had been in development over the last 18 months. Clothing which is ideally suited for the ride far and travel light philosophy of the TransContinental. Rob will be using our soon to be released PLAN B ultra packable race cape and lightweight StormShield Rain Jersey.

The majority of race capes and ultra packable jackets are stiff and lack flexibility. When we created the PLAN B we developed a fabric that was soft with a high degree of stretch enabling it to adapt to your body, yet was also incredibly light. The PLAN B can be folded into it's own pocket and stored easily in a jersey pocket and offers complete rain and wind protection via super light breathable membrane technology, weighing in at only 79grams.

Weighing in at 135 grams, the same as our Superlight Jerseys, the StormShield Rain Jersey uses a lightweight 3 ply membrane to block wind, stop rain and keep breathability. The soft inner and outer face of the fabric results in a weatherproof jersey that looks and feels very much like a conventional polyester jersey. Mesh underarm panels help excess heat escape, a full length zip cover stops rain ingression and the elbow length sleeves with direct silicone gripper gives an added feeling of protection.

Alongside these two new innovative products, Rob will also be using our highly rated and versatile Hemisphere Gilet, award winning Nth Series Bib Shorts with ColdBlack treatment and Elastic Interface chamois, class leading Hydrophilic base layer, StormShield water repellent packable arm and knee warmers and our ever popular socks and bottles.
