Morvélo Shorts Guide

Morvélo Shorts Guide

Get into cycling and the first item of clothing you’re going to buy is shorts. For good reason. Unless you’re Danny MacAskill, you’ll be spending a significant amount of time sitting down, so finding a pair that ensures you aren’t walking like a cowboy after a long ride isn’t a luxury, it’s an essential. Here what we recommend (they’re all comfy).

NTH SERIES:

THE RIDER SAYS:

Designing these were easy. We simply designed and made exactly the short we wanted to, without an eye on costs or margins or anything else that normally wades in to compromise a product and to make it fit a price point. The result is a short that is designed for speed and distance, which is probably why the Morvélo Basso team use it. If anyone is going to detect a weakness in the products, it’s these boys. Needless to say they found none and we’re confident if it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for us mere mortals.

THE TECH SAYS:

Premium Italian Miti fabric with Schoeller ColdBlack treatment to deflect heat. Class leading lightweight, multi-density Elastic Interface chamois (see below for details) with carbon weave. Supersoft silicone grippers. Bib-lock to keep the straps in position. Deep drop mesh panel enables ventilation behind the jersey pockets.

TEMPERATURE RANGE: 15°-35°C / 59-95°F

STANDARD:

THE RIDER SAYS:

The expression “test of time” fits the bill here. We’ve produced, ridden, raced, tested, sold and thrashed endless pairs of these shorts for over 9 years all over the world and everyone says how they are the most comfortable shorts they have ever worn. Isn’t it time you tried them?

THE TECH SAYS:

Italian Miti Power Lycra with light compression to reduce muscle fatigue. Mesh straps and silicone grippers. Award winning standard short chamois (see down the bottom of the page for details).

TEMPERATURE RANGE: 15°-30°C / 59-86°F

COVERT:

THE RIDER SAYS:

We designed them originally for mountain biking. We don’t like riding with packs if we can help it, so wanted a way to carry our stuff “road style”. Needless to say these have been lovingly adopted by the Adventure Road and Gravel Grinders looking to carry extra supplies on their exploits. Who are we to argue? If they can handle the rough and tumble of mountain biking they can handle anything.

THE TECH SAYS:

Three rear pockets. Italian Miti Power Lycra with light compression to reduce muscle fatigue. Mesh straps and silicone grippers. Slimmer Covert short chamois (see down the bottom of the page for details).

TEMPERATURE RANGE: 10°-30°C / 50-86°F

UNDERSHORTS:

THE RIDER SAYS:

We put everything we know about bib shorts, from 10 years of Morvélo and over 25 years of racing bikes, into the perfect undershort. Not some token gesture you get with some MTB baggies, but a short that works so well, it’s like a proper short. Just don’t go wearing it without anything over the top. Unless you’re an exhibitionist.

THE TECH SAYS:

Waist gripper with silicone print to hold outer shorts shorts up. Silicone legs grippers. Stretchy, lightweight and breathable main fabric. Slimmer Covert short chamois (see down the bottom of the page for details).

TEMPERATURE RANGE: 10°-30°C / 50-86°F

BIB KNICKERS:

THE RIDER SAYS:

Some people think bib knickers are a bit niche. Why not ride in either shorts or tights? They obviously haven’t experienced the joy of riding with your knees covered. Weird we know. Ideal for spring and summer, keeping those important joints warm, they also double up as great shorts to be worn under baggies, giving just the right amount of protection.

THE TECH SAYS:

Thermal Italian Super Roubaix fabric with durable water repellency. Mesh straps and silicone grippers. Award winning standard short chamois (see below for chamois details).

TEMPERATURE RANGE: 6°-15°C / 43-59°F

TIGHTS

THE RIDER SAYS:

If you ride in winter and want to stay warm and dry, this is what you need. Our tights come in three different models. The Deep Winter tights are waterproof and windproof with thermal straps, designed for properly grim conditions (if you really must go out). The StormShield tights mix a bit of this wind proofing and water resistance but with mesh straps and more breathable thermal panels. Good for the kinda grim, bordering on passable, conditions. The ThermoActive tights are simply thermal. What you loose in lack of water repellency or wind blocking you make up for in nice and snug breathability, ideal for spring and autumn.

THE TECH SAYS:

Deep Winter tights; 3 ply fabric with waterproof and windproof membrane. Super Roubaix fleece backed straps and award winning standard short chamois (see below for chamois details).
StormShield tights; waterproof and windproof membrane panels combined with Super Roubaix fleece-backed sections, mesh straps and award winning standard short chamois (see below for chamois details).
ThermoActive tights; thermal fleece-backed construction, mesh straps and foot loops. Award winning standard short chamois (see below for chamois details).

TEMPERATURE RANGE: 0°-15°C / 32-59°F
